From the early times, traveling has been the focus of man’s attention. In the past, the main purpose of long-time trips was limited to pilgrimage and trading and after that, in some societies, they meant nothing but a luxury; however, nowadays, pacing with the development in tourism and transport industry and also the increase in people’s income etc, tourism has become an integral part of their life.
Within the last six decades, tourism has undergone a continuous rise both in market volume and in variety and now it is one of the most important sectors in the economy of countries.
In many developed and developing countries, the revenue obtained by tourism is one of the main sources of countries’ income, in way that the number of international tourists witnessed a rise from 25 million in 1950 to more than 900 million in 2008 the profit of which has exceeded 1000 billion dollars.
The natural geography of our dear country, Iran, enjoys rich cultural heritage in beautiful landscapes of various climate. The historical sites registered in the UNESCO World Heritage inventory, Islamic era sites, bazaars, gardens, shrines and tombs, palaces, various ethnic communities, culture, art, handicrafts, traditional food, traditions and customs, traditional and exemplar tourism villages, national parks and preserved areas are of tourists’ attention and play an important role in international tourism.
Considering the unique potentialities in tourism, the real position of Iran in the world as one of the richest and oldest cultures and civilizations cannot be achieved unless travel holdings of efficient and updated system enjoying the related purposeful knowledge and technology are established so that we could witness the expansion of capacities and qualitative and quantitative development of services in a flourishing tourism.
